![]() ![]() (Kyle Jeffers)īlending adaptive reuse with new construction, the more than 15-years-in-the-making transformation of River Station B was led by local architecture and planning firm Dreyfuss + Blackford. ![]() The fences have come down and the graffiti has been scrubbed away in the long-awaited redevelopment of the five-and-a-half-acre site into the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity, or MOSAC. Preceded by a flurry of construction work that kicked off in 2018, the National Register of Historic Places–listed structure’s decades-spanning run as Sacramento’s most visible abandoned building finally came to an end late last year. It a chance to see an ancient skill being perserved, performed and brought into the future. However, those passing by the Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s old River Station B in recent months have likely noticed a change. To all visitors, If you have not done so take advantage of the live demonstration of molten bronze pourings during saturday evening art walks. The floor space is such that these pieces can be staged in such a way that the viewer can walk around the sculpture and experience it fully. It is one of the few galleries that also presents a variety of sculptures or three dimentional art. The gallery always features new and unique accomplished artists. ![]() I would highly recommend to visitors any future receptions and gallery viewings. IT WAS AN, "OUT OF THIS WORLD EXPERIENCE" The flow of uplifting spiritual images along with the performance of the quartet telling timeless stories in melodic harmonic form was both meditative and transforming. The spiritaul art work of Thekla Hammond along with the performance of THE SINE NOMINE ACAPPELLA QUARTET, in which she also participated was a blending of two arts in real time. The first part of the evening allowed guest to meet and visit while enjoying food wine and laughter. The reception and event of June 9th 2011 was particularly special. I have visited the Art Foundry Gallery many times over the last ten years and have always enjoyed the upscale art that was featured. Consider this a slice of life collection and enjoy. You CAN sit in a few vehicles - I enjoyed the 56 Buick, and its brobdingnagian steering wheel. Perhaps they are hoping space given over to the resale vehicles (a dealership of sorts) will be needed for inventory, and thus the rather confined placemen 9After all a lot of these are not inherently high dollar vehicles, or concours restorations). Display suufers from some park in row itis - oh, look, front of car, back of car, along with the unforgivable drive in screen - oh look, back of car, fantastic. Doecents are overwhelmingly willing to explain and describe, though I politely declined - pretty much a car nut and the overheard comments were things like - know where the gas cap is? Good for the uninitiated. There's a classic or two (nice Stutz, a KB Lincoln) but most are what you might have driven back in the day - which is fine, and does include some genuine brass era / nickel era autos as well. There's good and bad here, but much more good. Sacramento should feel fortunate to have a museum of this quality, for the benefit of its residents and visitors. The size of the museum and its collection(s) won't overwhelm you, and you can tour the museum in one visit without feeling that you've missed something. The Crocker Museum, on the other hand, has a very nice, diverse, "representative" collection of art. I have been to some major metropolitan museums (the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, for example) that are so large, you really need a couple of days to see and appreciate "everything" inside. ![]() This museum has its permanent collection, and hosts visiting exhibitions. The collection includes American works dating back to the Gold Rush era to the present, European paintings and master drawings, a collection of international ceramics, and a smattering of Asian, African and Oceanic art. (I'm surprised that I didn't submit a review after my first visit in 2015.)įounded in 1885, The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Western United States. This is my third visit to the Crocker Museum of Art. ![]()
